Terms of Service
1. What we are
ToucanBid is an online platform that connects Clients with independent licensed professionals (“Licensed Pros”) across many professions, such as trades, inspectors, accountants, attorneys, real estate and others. ToucanBid is a connector only: it does not perform any professional service, does not hold or process payments for the work, and does not supervise or warrant any Licensed Pro’s work. Any agreement for services is solely between the Client and the Licensed Pro.
2. Accounts and roles
Users register as a Client (posts jobs), a Licensed Pro (submits bids in the professions they are licensed for), or a Builder / GC (posts projects and trade packages and may bid), or are appointed as an Admin by ToucanBid. You must give accurate information and keep your login secure. Clients must confirm their email address and phone number (by SMS code) before posting a job.
3. Eligibility of Licensed Pros
- To bid in a category you must hold a valid professional license for that category in the job's state, or a federal credential where that is the qualifying credential (for example, IRS Enrolled Agent). You may bid only in categories and states where you hold a valid license.
- A PTIN alone, a local business tax receipt (BTR) alone, a CFP® designation alone, or any other private certification alone does not qualify. Eligibility is per state: you may bid only in states where your license is valid (federal credentials apply nationwide).
- For auto repair, a state-licensed or state-registered shop qualifies where the state does not license individuals.
- For each license you provide the category, state, license type and number, issuing body and expiry date. ToucanBid checks licenses against state data where available, re-checks them weekly, and otherwise reviews them manually. Expired or rejected licenses stop bidding in that category.
- Insurance is optional unless the law for that category and state requires it (as set by ToucanBid per category, with per-state overrides). Uploading a current certificate of insurance shows an “Insured” badge.
- Where a law requires it (for example, Fla. Stat. 489.119(5)(b) for Florida construction work), your license number is printed on your bids.
4. Fees and subscription
Clients pay nothing.
All Licensed Pros in every category pay a subscription of $9.99 per month. Founding Licensed Pros get their first 3 months free (90-day free trial). A card is required at signup. Billing is monthly with no contract, and you can cancel anytime in Account settings or the Stripe billing portal; cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period.
Bidding is available only while the subscription is active or in its free trial. If a payment fails or the subscription ends, bidding turns off until billing is fixed.
There are no connection, lead or transaction fees. See Fees and the Refund Policy.
4a. Subscription cancellation & refund policy
Licensed Pros pay one thing: the $9.99/month subscription. There are no connection, lead or transaction fees, and Clients never pay. Here is how cancellations and refunds work:
- Cancel anytime. Cancel in Plan & billing or in the Stripe billing portal. You keep bidding until the end of the period you already paid for; then bidding turns off and you are not charged again.
- Payment failed. If a monthly payment fails, bidding turns off right away. Update your card in the billing portal and bidding turns back on as soon as the payment goes through.
- Founding Licensed Pros. Your first 3 months (90 days) are free. A card is required at signup. Cancel before the free period ends and you pay nothing.
- Problem jobs. If a job is spam or fake, or the Client’s contact info does not work, tap “Report client”. Our team reviews it, usually within 2 business days, and removes the job.
Billing mistakes, such as a duplicate charge or a charge after you canceled, are refunded in full to your card through Stripe and usually appear within 5–10 business days.
No partial refunds for unused days of a billing month. The subscription gives account access and bidding; it does not promise any leads, jobs or income.
5. Sealed bids, contact masking and messaging
Bids are sealed. Before both sides accept a bid, the Client’s and the Licensed Pro’s phone numbers and email addresses are hidden and may not be exchanged in bids or messages. Contact details are revealed to both sides only after mutual acceptance.
6. Compliance pauses
ToucanBid may pause any category in any state (for example, on the advice of counsel or a regulator). While paused, new jobs and bids in that category and state are not accepted. Treatment of attorney and real estate categories is pending attorney review.
7. No per-connection fees
ToucanBid charges no connection, lead or transaction fee when a Client and a Licensed Pro are introduced or hire each other. Before both sides accept a bid, contact details must stay on the platform (see section 5); after mutual acceptance you may work together directly.
8. Reviews
Clients may review the Licensed Pro they hired after the job is marked complete, and the hired Licensed Pro may review the Client. Incentives for positive reviews, reviews by staff or a Licensed Pro’s relatives, and suppression of negative reviews are prohibited (16 CFR Part 465). ToucanBid removes reviews only for policy reasons such as spam, illegal content or personal information.
9. Badges, ranking and no paid placement
Badges reflect only the specific checks described on How Verification Works, as of the date shown. No one can pay for ranking or placement, and fee status never affects the Best Value suggestion, which is automated and is not advice. See How Ranking Works.
10. Payments for the work
Clients and Licensed Pros agree on price, deposit and payment schedule between themselves and pay each other directly. ToucanBid does not offer escrow and never holds funds for the work. Subscription charges are processed by Stripe; ToucanBid stores only Stripe customer and subscription IDs and status, never card numbers.
11. Disclaimers and limitation of liability
See Disclaimers. [Attorney to complete limitation of liability, indemnity, dispute resolution and governing law.]
